For the last six months, we've been researching and planning for how to revitalise the Flickr Commons program. Invented in 2008 and launched with the Library of Congress as its first partner, the primary goal of Flickr Commons was to share hidden treasures from the world's public photography archives. Since then, the program has grown to several million photographs from 114 cultural institutions around the world, but has limped somewhat under different corporate owners -- until now. Come and hear about the research and our plans for the future of this unique cultural asset.
