The way people seek out information online is rapidly changing. Screens are optional, and people receive content in bite-sized pieces tailored to their specific queries. Many of these services are enhanced by vast quantities of openly licensed materials that they pull their content from, but remain inconsistent in identifying content as freely licensed. In this session, we’ll use one example of such content reuse, Wikipedia, to discuss how reuse is done now, why reuse without attribution can harm Wikipedia and the open knowledge movement, and how we should approach such issues moving forward.
