The mechanisms of control of free expression are wrapped up with the mechanisms for monetisation and rights management. At a simple level, platforms demonetise expressions they don't like. At a less visible level artists have to stay in the good graces of the industry to access audiences.

From anti-terrorist laws to breaking up entrenched industries, where is openness relevant? Is it always at odds with exclusive rights and centralised control? Or maybe both make sense for different things and each has a place in the creative world?
