How does the world of code (Free Software and Open Source) compare with that of Wikipedia, and the Creative Commons? Three different but parellel -- in a way -- movements that have sought to change the way our world relates to creating and sharing knowledge and information. This paper, by an Indian journalist who has written on, and closely followed through participant observation, from the late 1990s and early 2000s, tries to pick up some useful lessons or suggest where positive change could come from.
